Bull vs Bear 'cash is king'

 On Thursday, I got SPXU  limit order filled at the close of market when it come 3 points shy of 200 days moving average. Friday morning, I sold all of it when S&P down 12 points and my SPXU up about 2% because I don't feel comfortable to hold my position over a long holiday weekend. As I mention in last blog, bull and bear are even, risk and reward ratio is similar. Cash is king right now.

I believe the market is searching a short term bottom, but the damage of last two weeks is overwhelming, I don't think market will go up V-shape. it may bounce up and down in a range before moving upward or downward. I say this because the low 1030 we saw three days ago is not the ultimate short term low I am looking for, 1100-960 with panic selling combine with a very high VIX reading is what I am hoping to see. As a matter of fact that market won't listen to me or consider what I am doing. Therefore, I will go back to the textbook, 'go with the flow, trend is your friend,cash is king'.

Spain lost its AAA credit grade at Fitch Ratings. The ratings company yesterday cut the grade one step to AA+ and assigned it a “stable” outlook. Spain has held the top rating at Fitch since 2003. Standard & Poor’s lowered Spain’s ratings to AA on April 28.

Let's see how the market will react to this on Tuesday market open. I am 100% in cash right now and waiting for the market to tell me what to do.

200 days moving average

Wednesday morning, S&P gap up, it reach +15 at one point, I almost place an order to short it. well, market order is not my favourite choice, so I decided to place an limit order and wait for a better entry price. Market go back down -6 at the end. Miss the chance to make some money.

Market still searching a short term bottom, at this moment, the most critical point to watch is the 200 days moving average which is 1104. That's the limit short order I place in this morning. If the market is strong enough to break through this point and stay, bull may take charge. However, if it turn back after touching it, then the bear will gain power.

My short term strategy is

1. to short the market again if it reach 200 days moving average and go back down.
2. to start adding long position when it keep sell off  to 1010 and below.

Risk Reward Ratio

Tuesday market gap down, a little bit panic selling, I sold the rest of SPXU stock at the best price 39.8. That's the advantage and the art of selling at limit price, because the  market bounce back up at the end of the day, and it also shows a long tail hanging man candlestick, looks like it want to go back up a little. I am 100% in cash now because the Risk Reward ratio on either bull or bear is very even.

Personally, I really want to see the S&P go down to 1010, the Dow 9400 , which are the 38% fibonacci retracement level from the low 666 to high 1200. Another support is 990 which is the 80 weeks moving average. We can see there is a very strong support around 1010 to 990.

Market is oversold, it's searching for a bottom anytime from now, however, the momentum is still down and we are looking for some technical bounce (1103, 200 days moving average)  in this correction before we see the real short term bottom . If there is some panic selling down to 1010 and 990, we will start accumulating.

Short term bottom?

I've been holding SPXU for a while, which is a ETF 3x shorting the S&P500, I sold half of my holding on last Friday low around 1050, Future market shows 27 points down by the time of this writing. I might sell the other  half of my holding tomorrow. Then I will looking for a good price to long this market again.

The bearish  view  is all over the market now. The news from Korea seems to be the trigger of this short term panic bottom, I believe  the market will go back up to retest the 200 days moving average, if you are patient enough or you want to play it safe in a long term, you can wait until  it hits  the 80 weeks moving average which is about 990. Textbook told you not to catch a falling knife. My theory is to separate invest capital into 3 or 4 portion to catch a falling knife.

Correction or Bear Market?

Yesterday was the first real panic that the market has seen since the “Glitch” on May 6th. The strange low that day of 1,066 is being generally accepted as an anomaly with the “real low” being at around 1,100 on the S&P 500.

The accuracy of this guesswork is in question. However if true, then yesterday’s low on the S&P at 1,100.66 could be considered a successful test of the psychologically important round number of 1,100. More than that it was, at least temporarily, a successful test (its third) of the 200-day moving average now at 1,103.44.
And so the major question at hand is this: Will the S&P 500 hold at the important zone of 1,085 to 1,115 which contains the 200-day moving average, or will it penetrate it and signal us that a major correction is underway?

Then, we have today’s cut through the 200-day moving average, if prices head south, the next target is at 1,070 and then the February low at 1,050.
Most expect buyers to get aggressive on a pullback to the 1070-1050 zone. I expect the SPX to trade back to 1200 by August despite the EU’s sovereign debt problems. But remember my ultimate long term view is bearish, market will fall and retest March, 2009 low!
